Marrickville Council, which is headed by the Australian Greens, had recently impressed me by announcing it would join the growing global campaign to boycott Israel in protest to its horrific oppression of the Palestinians. Now it seems they are caving to pressure from the Zionist lobby, and have announced that it will be an “in principle” suport for BDS that they will endorse. Having, until recently, and now once more, been deeply disappointed by the weakness off the supposedly progressive Greens on this issue, I decided to send them the email included below. I suggest you send something similar:

subject “In Principle”
Dear CouncilorsI have heard that the Greens of Marrickville have, in the face of threats and criticism, downgraded their support of palestine from a practical level, to one of “principle”. I would like to inform you that if this occurs, I who have voted green in every election I have participated in, will in future, support voting green in “principle”, but not in deed.
Regards,–

polive@marrickville.nsw.gov.au,
Fickle politicians remind me of Christians who ‘pray for peace’ but do nothing on a practical level to assist the Palestinian liberation movement.
